Creating a New EndNote Library
- With the EndNote program active, go to the File menu
- Choose New
- Type in an appropriate file name (for example. EndNote bibliography)
- Locate the directory you wish to store the library file in
- Click on the Save button
Previewing References
To view the details of a reference in the EndNote Library, you can double click on the reference with the mouse button, or you can click once on the reference and hit the ENTER key on the keyboard. Click on the Show Preview button in the bottom right corner of the library to see the selected reference as it will be formatted in a bibliography.
Closing a Reference
ENDNOTE TIP:
EndNote automatically saves all changes to a reference when the Reference window is closed.
Since EndNote automatically saves your references "on the fly" it is reassuring to know that in the event of a technological malfunction, your information will not be lost. A down side to this is that it is not possible to revert to a previous version of your EndNote library, so it is important to create backup files regularly.
Importing Information From Other Sources
Above we have seen how to enter information manually into EndNote. Further modules will look at how to bring information into EndNote from other sources.
