Using the Direct Import Method

What is a Direct Import?

Direct imports allow you to download information from a database or other electronic source, immediately into EndNote, without the need for translation via a filter or connect file. Essentially, the database does all of the translation for you. The number of databases that allow this is increasing all the time.

Importing References Using the Direct Import Option

In this section we'll show you how to import references from the Web of Science using the Direct Import option.

  • From the Library home page, click on W under the E-Resources andDatabases heading.
  • Connect to the Web of Science and perform your search. Mark your references by placing ticks in the boxes beside them
  • Click on the button
  • Click on the button at the top of the Web of Science records page
  • You will be prompted to select the fields to include for downloading. Place a tick in each box to ensure all fields will be imported
  • Click on the button
  • If you are prompted to Save or Open the file, select Open
  • You will be prompted to open your EndNote Library. Choose the library you wish to have the references added to and the references will be directly imported
  • Double-click and open some of the newly imported references to check if the information has been transferred correctly

Log off from Web of Science and close this window.
