Previewing & Selecting Styles

EndNote gives you the ease of selecting and previewing styles such that you are able to use the one document for many purposes. It is not necessary to reformat your document, say a journal article, for each publication to which it is submitted. Instead, simply alter the style before submission by following these easy steps:

  • In EndNote, go to the Edit menu and choose Output Styles
  • Select Open Style Manager
  • Choose the style you wish to apply by checking the box on the left hand side

ENDNOTE TIP:

You can preview each of the styles by double clicking on it. This will show you the format of the chosen style, and if it is not exactly what you require, you can follow the steps listed under Modifying Styles to add or remove components.

To see more details on a style click on the style, and open More Info (at the bottom of the screen). You will now be able to toggle between information on the style and a preview of how references in a bibliography will be formatted using that style. (see the 2 examples below)

Styles that have been checked will now be available in the Style drop down menu on the EndNote toolbar. Remember, the style that is showing in the toolbar is the currently active style and will format references entered into Word documents.
