Creating an Independent Bibliography in EndNote

Any one of the procedures described in this chapter can be used to create an independent bibliography.

  • Use drag-and-drop to instantly transfer a bibliography to a word processing document
  • Copy formatted references from a library and paste them into a word processing document
  • Export references from a library
  • Preview and/or Print references from EndNote

Styles Determine the Look of the Bibliography

The selected EndNote style determines what information is included in the bibliography, how it is arranged, and what punctuation and text styles are used. Select a style that meets your needs before exporting, printing or formatting references.

To Drag your Bibliography

Click on the text and drag it to a new location. If your word processor supports drag-and-drop, you can drag a bibliography from an EndNote Library window directly into your paper.

  • Open your library and select the desired references â€" make a selection of multiple references with CTRL + click.
  • Select the necessary style from the Output Style submenu of EndNote’s Edit menu.
  • Hold down the CTRL key as you drag the references from the library and drop them directly onto a word processing document in the background.

This creates a fully formatted bibliography with the references formatted and sorted according to the selected style. The font used can be changed in the Preferences > Edit > Display Fonts menu.

Copy Formatted

The font used for can be changed in the Preferences > Edit > Display Fonts menu.
