Web Searching and evaluating
Web sites, Citation Searching and setting up Current Awareness profiles
This course
will look at efficient ways to search the Web. It will also give students
practice in evaluating the Web as an information source. Students will
also learn about citation indexes and how to conduct citation searches.
Finally students will learn to set up a current awareness profile.
Prerequisites:
It is recommended that students attend a Search Strategies and Topic Analysis
session prior to attending this course.
Learning
outcomes:
- Students
will have acquired techniques for conducting effective Web Searches

will be able to critically evaluate search engines and web sites
- Students
will be competent in conducting citation searches
- Students
will have learnt to set up a current awareness profile to allow them
to keep up-to-date with the information in their field
- Knowledge
of how to cite Web information and styles for doing so
