FIRST YEAR SUPPORT

Knowing what is available to help with assignments is a major battle for most new students. Getting IT and/or information skills support for your first year students can be either face-to-face or online.

Building Information literacy skills -- Online
InfoStart is an online tutorial aimed at building a good understanding of the riches available to students at ANU through the information infrastructure (Information commons computer network and Library)

The First Year Arts Face-to-face Project
The aim of this project is to create an integrated and co-ordinated Information Literacy learning experience for all first year Arts students. Each student takes part in a training and support package directly linked to the context of their Arts degree, and at the level approriate to their individual needs.

This Information Literacy Program (ILP) project concentrates on:

appropriate IT skills
topic analysis and search strategies
understanding information resources - when to look for a book in the Library and when to reach for a bibliographic database
evaluating web sites
correct forms of citing (and other anti-plagiarism issues)
